Highfield House offers an excellent programme of specialised dementia care
Our specialised dementia care is tailored to each individual resident and our dementia care plans are regularly reviewed by our nursing staff. Much of our focus is based upon research by Dr Gemma M. Jones and her work on communication and care.
Our nursing team work together with residents and their families to identify the best coping strategies and stimulation methods for the different stages of dementia. This involves ensuring our residents maintain as much independence as possible whilst ensuring they engage with appropriate activities. These may include music, art and long term recall of memories and of family and friends
At induction all staff have an introductory course in the behavioural stages of dementia and they also regularly attend in house courses. Residents receive expert, thoughtful and individual support. Meaningful hobbies and social opportunities are an every-day part of life in our care home – our team use many different activities and social engagements to enhance quality of life.
Our approach means residents and relatives are involved in how the home is run. We constantly seek to introduce new ideas into our home to help engage and stimulate our residents, whilst still keeping friends, families and local communities actively involved in their lives.
